The Assistant Director of Communications and Marketing will conceptualize, develop, and execute a comprehensive multimedia communications and marketing strategic plan, in addition to an editorial calendar aimed at recruiting diverse and academically talented undergraduate students to UC Santa Cruz. Secondary is the development and execution of successful digital engagement strategies targeting segmented student populations, parents, and educational partners. The incumbent is responsible for creating/curating original digital content aimed at key audiences on social media while keying into overall marketing strategy and maintaining a consistent and meaningful brand message. Original content may include social media surveys/contests, social media-only videos, photos, stories, and other engagement mediums. In partnership with campus constituents, the incumbent will also identify, monitor and/or contribute to conversations that intersect with recruitment of undergraduate students, campus branding and communications.
The Assistant Director thinks critically and creatively about how to package and deliver key messages across a variety of platforms to reach the broadest possible audience. This position requires a sharp editor who is quick on their feet, meaning that the candidate must be someone who can quickly whip up witty headlines and eye-catching tweets, without sacrificing accuracy and integrity in their work. While responsible for leading the communications and marketing team, the incumbent must be able to work independently, own their work, set priorities, multitask and see projects through to completion. The Assistant Director will supervise a publications coordinator and a team of student interns. A successful candidate possesses a startup mentality, passion and tenacity for making UC Santa Cruz relevant to the world.
Office of Undergraduate Admissions generates, reviews, and processes in excess of 67,000 applications and serves approximately 38,000 campus visitors each year. The office has 44 career staff FTE, 45-50 part-time/temporary staff, and 150 student staff. Staff work locally and regionally throughout California and the nation.
The office is part of Enrollment Management, which includes Financial Aid and Scholarships, Orientation and Undergraduate Admissions. Enrollment Management is part of the multi-faceted academic Division of Undergraduate Education. Undergraduate Admissions, Enrollment Management and Undergraduate Education work closely with select Academic Senate committees.

Bachelor's degree in related area or combination of equivalent experience and/or training.
Advanced knowledge of design, brand development, digital communication media, including content/customer relations management systems or relevant web applications used for website production along with strong understanding of industry best practices.
Advanced understanding of organizational processes, procedures, and applicable rules and regulations for digital/print communication.
Exceptional interpersonal oral/written communication and editing skills including political acumen in trouble-shooting and applying proactive and positive solutions.
Experience developing and implementing strategic plans using a variety of social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Pinterest, Instagram, SnapChat, YikYak, etc.) to develop and engage with the audience. Includes systematically monitoring conversations and trends in social marketing.
Special Conditions and Additional Comments: Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends. Selected candidate will be required to pass a pre-employment criminal history background check.
