The Director of Communications and Marketing is responsible for assuring that each constituency of the School has the information necessary to keep it informed, engaged and supportive. The job itself is also multifaceted, with duties that range from sending day-to-day messages to guiding long-term strategic thinking. Fundamentally, a successful Director of Communications and Marketing will be passionate about education, will thrive in a fast-paced work environment, and will understand the critical importance of accurate, thoughtful and timely communications implicitly. The Director of Communications and Marketing leads strategic communications and marketing initiatives that foster the school's vision and mission. Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Develop and implement an overall communications strategy for the school that includes the website, print materials, social media, and digital media content.? Evaluate and change as needed at the end of each year.
Oversee and direct all mass communications, whether as a writer, editor or reviewer, and have authority over their accuracy, the method of delivery, appropriateness, and tone.
Manage the school’s external website, including developing, updating and posting content, exploring and developing new features and serving as project manager for an upcoming redesign. ?
Oversee the production of a variety of materials meant to increase the school’s visibility and competitive positioning and enhance the public’s perception of the school (ex: admissions viewbook /advancement summer magazine/videos). ?
Cultivate and maintain working relationships between Branson and the media as well as other key community organizations; to create and sustain an official point of contact for public information. ?
Serve as the school’s primary media contact and foster relationships with media personnel to enhance the school’s image and visibility. Review all requests for interviews and permit faculty and staff to be interviewed. Coordinate public relations efforts by producing press releases or content for Bay Area media outlets and developing and maintaining relationships with local media. ?
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in English, journalism, communications, or marketing. Master’s degree preferred.
The desire to be involved in all aspects of life at an independent school: attend performances, sporting events, and assemblies.
Seven or more years of experience in marketing and communications with independent schools or nonprofit organizations. ?
Facility with a variety of technical systems and SIS programs.
Outstanding organizational skills. ?
Adept public speaker.
Exceptional written and oral communication skills. ?
Proven ability to effectively lead and manage multiple creative projects simultaneously. ?
Creative and artistic vision and direction. ?
Experience in desktop publishing design and management of design production.
Demonstrated and relevant experience with photography, videography, website content management and design, and social media marketing. ?
This job is a full-time, full-year, exempt position. Salary and benefits are highly competitive and commensurate with experience.
