A Harvard Business School Assistant Professor in the Marketing Unit is seeking a half-time Research Associate for one year or more, beginning July, 2019. The Research Associate (RA) will assist with the daily operations of research projects with an emphasis on health markets. Further research may focus on developing a model for organizational buying behavior.
The RA will report directly to the faculty supervisor and an administrative manager in the Research Staff Services office. Ideal RA candidates will be comfortable in an environment that requires a high level of independence, intellectual curiosity, and the ability to use discretionary judgment.
Collect, manage, and manipulate data using a variety of tools and sources, including but not limited to Excel, Stata and/or R. Develop, synthesize, and provide analysis of data exhibits for academic journal articles, HBS cases and HBS teaching notes.
Independently manage all timelines and deliverables. Exercise independent decision making with regard to progression of research project and methodologies. Must be able to structure assignments and keep faculty member informed as necessary, using own judgment.
Ensure compliance with department, university, and federal regulations. Complete work with only general direction. Be aware of department, school, university policies and potential outside research policies.
This is a half-time term appointment starting as soon as possible through June 30, 2020, with potential for continued reappointment for the next academic year and further.
All Research Associate roles at HBS are structured as term appointments and half-time roles can be paired to create a full-time position. Preference for a candidate willing to commit for two or more years.

Bachelor's degree required. This position is ideal for candidates with an interest in economics or applied marketing research, with a background in econometrics.
Strong working knowledge of Stata or R is required.
Evidence of outstanding academic achievement. Indication of training and good habits in data management and analysis. All candidates will be expected to submit sample coding to be reviewed by and discussed with an HBS statistician, and/or given a comparable exercise.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, organization, research, and analytical skills are required. Proven ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and to flexibly adapt to changes in priorities; ability to work calmly under deadline pressure, work both independently and as a team member, take initiative; and follow projects through to completion.
