Reporting to the Vice President of Advancement & Strategic Partnerships, the Director of Marketing and Brand Communication is responsible for the planning, creation, development, and implementation of all of the organization’s internal and external marketing strategies, marketing communications, and public relations activities at Girard College (GC). The director will help lead efforts to develop and implement a comprehensive plan for marketing, communications, and public relations and coordinate at the strategic and tactical level. The director is responsible for measuring and reporting the progress of these efforts to enhance internal and external communications, as well as all organization marketing, communications and public relations activities and materials including publications, and media relations.
Major Functions and Responsibilities:
Ensure articulation of school’s desired image and position, assure consistent communication of image and position throughout the school, and assure communication of image and position to all constituencies, both internal and external.
Responsible for editorial direction, design, production, and distribution of all school publications.
Coordinate media interest in the school and ensure regular contact with target media and appropriate response to media requests.
Act as the school’s representative with the media and coordinate the appearance of all GC print and electronic materials such as letterhead, use of logo, brochures, etc.
Ensure that the school regularly conducts relevant market research, coordinates, and leads projects as assigned, such as cause-related marketing and special events, planning and budgeting.
Responsible for the achievement of marketing/communications/public relations mission goals.
Develop short and long-term plans and budgets for the marketing/communications/public relations program and its activities, monitor progress, assure adherence, and evaluate performance.
Develop, implement and monitor systems and procedures necessary for the smooth operation of the marketing/communications/public relations program.
Keep informed of developments in the fields of marketing (regional and national), communications, and public relations.
Work with senior administration, other staff, and volunteers to develop and maintain a strategic perspective -- based on marketplace and constituent needs and satisfaction.
Help make sure that the school’s philosophy, mission, and vision are pertinent and practiced throughout the school.
Develop and coordinate means to seek regular input from the school’s key constituencies regarding the quality of programs and services and the school’s relevance.
Ensure effective management and collaboration in the marketing, communications, and public relations.

Minimum Acceptable Qualifications
B.S. or B.A. degree, preferably in Marketing, Communications, or related field.
Minimum five years progressive experience in communications and marketing, or an advancement related function on the independent school, college level, or non-profit.
An understanding of diverse constituencies and commitment to the mission of Girard College is essential.
Exemplary communication skills, both verbal and written.
Demonstrated skills, knowledge and experience in the design and execution of marketing, communications, and public relations activities.
Experience developing and executing social media strategies.
Experience creating content for and managing organizational website.
Strong creative, strategic, analytical, organizational, and personal skills.
Experience developing and managing budgets and working with vendors.
Demonstrated successful experience writing press releases, making presentations, and negotiating with media.
Experience overseeing the design and production of print materials and publications.
Commitment to working with shared leadership and in cross-functional teams.
Experience using Raisers Edge (and or other development software systems) or similar computer systems.
Experience with graphic design and photography skills highly desirable.
Strong organizational and time management skills.
Ability to manage multiple tasks, make decisions, meet deadlines, and work under pressure.
Excellent listening skills.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
Ability to speak, hear, and understand spoken English.
Ability to print or write English legibly and accurately.
Visual acuity of at least 20/40 (with corrective lenses if needed) to read or type.
Fine motor skills for effective and efficient handling of a word processor.
