The Institute for Innovation and Implementation at the University of Maryland, School of Social Work (The Institute) has an open position for a Director of Social Marketing. This position is responsible for overseeing The Institute's social marketing efforts. This includes unique marketing requirements of specific funding sources such as Federal grants and contracts as well as other programs within The Institute. The Institute serves as a national training, technical assistance, evaluation, policy, systems design, and finance center that is focused on children's behavioral health.
The Institute supports state and local governments and organizations to implement effective systems and practices to best meet the needs of children and youth with complex behavioral needs and their families. This support is provided through three primary centers within The Institute: National Center, Maryland Center and Texas Center. These centers work in an integrated fashion including best practices in implementation science to assist governmental and other organizational entities to achieve better outcomes for children, youth, and their families.

Design and support implementation of all social marketing work of The Institute. This includes work across all projects that make up The Institute such as:
Creating work plans and assign/manage responsibilities of partners
Organizing TED Talk initiatives
Organizing The Frameworks Institute initiative
Participating in Children's Mental Health Awareness Day TA planning and implementation activities
Liaison with campus, school of social work and external graphic designers
Oversee and enhance social media and marketing efforts within The Institute
Assist the Director and Deputy Director in design of a marketing plan for The Institute to include but not be limited to: Promotion of research, outreach to philanthropic organizations, celebrations and events, and annual reports
Supervise staff working in social marketing, strategic communication and social media roles
Develop operational effectiveness within the Media Relations function to maximize news distribution channels, streamline policies and procedures, and ensure current social media procedures are met.
Develop and implement media relation's strategic plan.
Direct the development of specific media relations plans and/or events with other departments and guarantee the implementation of these projects.
Direct the development and implementation of goals, policies, and fiscal plans for the department.
Facilitate and provide strategic communications consultation to leadership on issues and activities that can impact reputation, working to deliver messages/stories proactively and to be prepared reactively. Support and protect corporate reputation.
Implement systems for improving and measuring outcomes and return on investment for all media relations and corporate communications initiatives. Drive departmental innovation and performance improvement.
Determines program planning and fiscal accountability. Participates in the development and implementation of goals, policies, and fiscal plans for the department.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Education: Bachelors in English, Journalism, Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Graphic Design, Advertising or a business-related field is required. Experience: Seven (7) years of experience in marketing, communications, public or client relations. Supervisory: Three (3) years of leadership and Management experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge about best practices related to graphic design.
Extensive knowledge related to social marketing.
Skill in supervising, mentoring, and team building in order to provide guidance and instruction to others.
Ability to take a lead role in performing and directing various advanced, routine and maintenance procedures.
Ability to exercise the initiative and resourcefulness necessary for prioritizing multiple and ongoing projects.
Makes effective and timely decisions; and learns how to effectively use technology.
Skill in data manipulation and analysis with an ability to solve problems and make sound judgement. Skill in continuously seeking to improve the quality of services and processes.
Ability to effectively communicate both verbal and written thoughts, ideas, and facts. Writes and presents information in a clear and concise way. Interprets and understands written information and is able to listen attentively to verbal and non-verbal cues that lead to a deeper understanding.
Ability to work cooperatively with others and demonstrates professional, ethical, respectful, and courteous behavior when interacting with others. Demonstrate pleasant and positive interactions with other to meet customer expectations, and provide follow up with customers. Reaches compromise and consensus to influence and negotiate. Remains calm and is able to manage conflict, and works well with a diverse workforce. Approachable style allows others to be open in sharing thoughts and ideas.
